John Caggiano Bio

Dr. John Caggiano is the founder of eObservations.com. The website was initially created for a grant project with the School University Research Network of Virginia (SURN) through collaborative efforts with The College of William & Mary. Based on feedback from principals and district leaders participating in this grant project, the website has grown to become a tool that is now being used by over a thousand educational leaders and teachers from Virginia to California to implement a formative teacher observation process.

Dr. Caggiano currently serves as the Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in Hampton City Schools (Hampton, Virginia). Dr. Caggiano is a former elementary teacher, elementary principal, middle school principal, and executive director of school leadership. During his tenure as a principal, Dr. Caggiano worked in a collegial manner with faculty to ensure that the teacher observation process was meaningful and one that impacted teacher growth and student outcome measures. He knows firsthand the power of implementing a process in schools that places an emphasis on a formative approach to teacher feedback.

Dr. Caggiano is the co-author of the book Formative Assessment Leadership: Identify, Plan, Apply, Assess, Refine (2014), and he also serves as an adjunct professor at the Darden College of Education (Old Dominion University).
